The pier has since been extended eastwards, and together with the North Wall shown here with the three cannons, now protects the main harbour entrance.<br />
Cobb Hamlet is behind the red buoy, and the main town of Lyme Regis is to the right of the beach huts.<br />
The Jurassic coastline leads off into the distance with the seaside town of Charmouth, then Golden Cap and the sandstone cliffs of Burton Bradstock.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/PanoramicEarth/~4/opzoYxq7D6Y" height="1" width="1" /><br />

The black and white building with the purple shutters is the once famous &#039;Mol&#039;s Coffee House&#039; with a crest dated 1596. Dating back to the 13th century, Polperro is a jumble of pastel coloured cottages and narrow streets, once a haven for the smuggling of brandy and tobacco. Originally only accessible by boat or via a steep staircase down the cliff from 60m above, it can now be reached by a recently opened lift.<br />

It became famous in the film Golden Eye when 007 James Bond made his 7.5 second bungy jump. It was rebuilt in 1960 and is a popular location for visitors who climb over the smoothly polished rocks to bathe in the many natural rock pools. Alongside the river are these gardens with a view across the river of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Pierre founded in 769. It can be reached by a number 10 bus from the hill above the old city, or by ferryboat from the old harbour.  The simple building with the flat roof on the rocky island is the remains of Saint Ann&#039;s Chapel, La Ermita de Santa Ana, constructed in the 17th century to house the statue of Nuestra Se&ntilde;ora del Mar (Our Lady of the Sea).<br />
 Behind in the centre is the Gothic church of Santa Maria de la Asuncion, the most important gothic monument in the region.<br />

This jetty separates the sandy section of beach next to the harbour, from the long shingle section constructed in 2006 to protect the seafront from storm damage.<br />
In October 2005, the workmen renovating this jetty discovered the remains of a 190 million year old Ichthyosaur fossil which is now displayed in the Lyme Regis Museum.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/PanoramicEarth/~4/0TAlmB6Gfs0" height="1" width="1" /><br />

Originally a 1st century AD Roman colony established to mine iron ore deposits, it is now a popular tourist destination.<br />
This is the view from the end of the long breakwater which protects the harbour. Looking back inland, the two buildings at the end of the breakwater are the Iglesia de Santa Maria on the left, and the old castle and lighthouse on the right.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/PanoramicEarth/~4/se4HFue1aH4" height="1" width="1" /><br />

The path itself extends 630 miles from Minehead in North Devon,<br />
around the entire Cornish coast, and through South Devon.<br />
It then follows Dorset&#039;s famous Jurassic Coastline, now a World Heritage Site, up over Golden Cap seen here above the sandstone cliffs, and finishes at Poole in Dorset.<br />

At low tide, walkers can reach the little port of Isla by crossing a small river on the left of the bay.<br />
