Koos works with a Fuji GX617 panorama camera with 3 lenses, the 90mm, 180mm and the 300mm. Films of choice is Fuji Velvia50 ASA and Provia 100ASA.

At the beginning of the year 2002 Koos closed the studio and started doing landscapes full-time. A step of faith with no immediate income he was confident that the choice he had made was the correct one. He linked up with the Peace Parks Foundation, to cover the Transfrontier Parks which were established. Shooting free of charge in the parks Koos makes his work available to the PPF for use in annual reports and web sites. In exchange for that he receives free access to the parks. Going into wild places on his own he spends up to two months at a time to cover the area. Carrying enough food to sustain him, water must be sourced by any possible means, wells, rivers, boreholes etc. A typical trip will produce around 200 films which are kept safe in a fridge.

Koos is an artist in the bush and use large reflector boards and artificial light to blend natural and artificial light in his images. A huge selection of filters are used to compensate for contrast or enhancement reasons. He sells his work as fine-art prints and also to the commercial market. He has the largest large format collection of panoramic images of Africa in the world. No manipulation is done on his color work, nothing is taken out or added. His love for the African veld is a reflection of the images we see.

He works predominantly with a large format panoramic film camera and tends to specilialise in making panoramic images of mountain landscapes, especially in the Scottish Highlands and Hebrides. Whilst not photographing mountain ranges, Peter is usually photographing the Yorkshire Coast and he is currently working on a book project about Yorkshire’s Dinosaur Coast.

His photographic style tends toward the moody and evocative rather than the purely representative.

“I love light and I will chase special light to the end of the world. Light is absolutely everything for me, it is always out-of-the-ordinary light that catches my attention first and only then if I like the light I start looking for a subject and a composition. Henri Ulrich, one of the major forerunners of wildlife photography and Robert Hainard, a patient observer, guided him in his quest of the unattainable ideal picture.

His largest and most successful photographic travel project was a self-motivated tour of Europe entitled ‘All Round Europe‘. This took him to every capital city throughout Europe, 43 in total. In every capital he took numerous panoramic photographs in places of interest representing architecture or just visually stimulating locations. The best of which featured in his book alongside a few paragraphs of political and geographical information as well as some of his opinions. Given his first camera at the age of eight Ian began taking black and white photos of family and friends and of the regular annual holidays. A love of landscapes developed and flourished during a school camping safari to outback Queensland while attending secondary college.

Since that time he has had a variety of camera equipment and currently uses a variety of Nikon gear alongside a Hasselblad Panorama camera. First attempts of shooting black and white panoramic images with his Horizont camera during a trip around the world in 1992/93 sparked his interest in this wide format. In conjunction with multimedia applications,
Chris began experimenting with cylindrical QuickTime VR technology and starting receiving orders for client projects in the mid-nineteen-nineties.

In spring of 2005, his agency schnurstracks, organized the “rundum Panorama” exhibition. Chris is also co-founder of Panoramalampe company. They use 360 panoramas as cylindrical and svilleling lampshades for the panorama lamp. In 2009 Chris has written a german book about interactive panoramic photography: Interaktive Panoramafotografie – Edition ProfiFoto.
